BUY WOMEN BUILT: 12 BRITISH INDIE BRANDS THAT ARE FEMALE FOUNDER-LED

Did you know that in 2025 still only 2.3% of global venture capital went to female-only founding businesses (source: ff.co/women-funding-statistics-2025). That stat alone says a lot about why movements like Buy Women Built matter: they help make women-led brands more visible, more discoverable, and more widely supported by everyday shoppers. And with 81% of 11-18 year olds unable to name a single female entrepreneur (source: Research on behalf of Santander UK 2019), making these brands – and their founders – more visible is crucial to change the pattern.

Founded to close the visibility gap for female entrepreneurs, Buy Women Built has grown into a movement that connects consumers with women-founded businesses in a simple, meaningful way. Its mission is clear: to help shoppers recognise and support brands built by women, while also strengthening the commercial ecosystem around them. In a market where discovery often depends on shelf space, retailer support, and social visibility, that kind of advocacy can make a real difference.

With shoppers increasingly wanting to align their purchases with their values, whether that means sustainability, ethical sourcing, or supporting underrepresented founders, Buy Women Built provides that stamp of approval so you don’t have to do the extra research.

Buy Women Built Brands to Know

These are the 12 brands I’ve discovered (some of which I’ve championed for years now) that I believe in and are worth supporting, from unique concept to distinctive design and unmatched quality.

Beauty & wellness

  • Evolve Beauty: small batch, apothecary-style, natural beauty products. I discovered them in my local Planet Organic pretty much at the start of my Fresh Beauty Fix days, and I’ve continued to champion this brand for its eco-conscious stance
  • Pai Skincare: it’s no secret that I am in awe of founder Sarah Brown for building such a trusted brand for sensitive skin – as an eczema sufferer, that means a lot to find effective certified organic skincare that calms skin.
  • Upcircle: co-founder Anna Brightman had this great idea to upcycle food waste – starting with coffee from local coffee shops – into vegan and cruelty-free skincare. I love this zero-waste ethos, which is more important than ever against the backdrop of big corporations and governments dropping or pushing back their sustainability goals.
  • Lisa Franklin: award-winning skincare expert and facialist Lisa offers tailored treatments in her clinic on London’s Sloane Street, as well as a range of high-end  skincare products  to continue the work at home. Her bespoke facial not only felt like the ultimate luxurious experience, but it also left my skin feeling decongested and looking so refreshed.
  • UNRUSHD: new to the holistic beauty scene, UNRUSHD invites you to slow down and evolve your beauty routine into a sensory experience. With its 18 botanical oils the Complete Ritual Serum is my favourite product in the range – at night that’s all I need to apply.
  • Prism Polish: with my nail polish collection currently stretching to nearly 80 shades spanning the whole colour spectrum, I probably have more options than some nail salons. But when I discovered Prism Polish’s handmade vegan range of incredibly vibrant shades with finishes I’d never seen elsewhere, I knew this brand would have to join my collection.

Lifestyle

  • Chaykra: inspired by their Indian heritage, two London-based sisters launched this wellness brand offering organic cotton yoga and loungewear, and gemstone jewellery and gifts. I’m obsessed with these bracelets, featuring amethyst for cleansing energy, sunstone for boosting confidence or Citrine to encourage prosperity. I’ll stack all three then.
  • Indi Supplements: with a hectic pace of life, it can feel challenging to ensure you’re always following a healthy and nutritious diet. INDI are here to fill those gaps with 100% plant-based nutrient-rich ingredients, without compromising on taste.
  • Oops a Daisy: the more digital we go, the more we seem to crave cute stationery – or is that just me? From planners to journals, Oops A Daisy offers stationery with a twist: their stickers, stencils and washi tape will help you personalise your journal and make it even more fun to put pen to paper.

Fashion

  • Peachy Belts: when we’re living in the era of personalisation, this clever concept goes a long way – different coloured belts with interchangeable buckles provide a fun yet practical styling tool, transforming one dress or pair of trousers into a different look.
  • Apres Youth: I believe you can have fun with jewellery without looking like a 5-year-old, and I’ve finally found a brand that shares this joyful ethos. You can see it in the playful designs of these handmade pieces that remain ultra wearable thanks to the use of recycled sterling silver and gold vermeil and precious stones.
  • Votch: what started 8 years ago as a vegan watch-strap brand in response to the lack of leather-free alternatives, has now grown into a watch and handbag business offering stylish accessories with a trademark sleek design. That tan bamboo ‘leather’ tote is coming with me everywhere.
