If you’re into your skincare you’ll know that vitamin C is a highly sought-after ingredient due to its anti-ageing and radiance boosting properties. It is thought to even out skin tone, improve hydration, stimulate collagen and help skin fight environmental aggressors such as UVA and UVB rays (as discussed in my post about key beauty ingredients. You’ll come across vitamin C in serums, moisturisers, oils, boosters (I’ve had great results from Clinique’s Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%) and masks – try Natura’s potato & parsley under eye mask. I guess it was only a matter of time before Boots joined the club and launched a vitamin C skincare range aiming to brighten skin. I was gifted the full set of products consisting of a cleanser, an eye gel, a moisturiser and a sleep mask. Basically everything you need for a short and sweet fuss-free skincare routine.
Boots Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Gel
I find the simplicity of the range very enticing: only four easy-to-use products, with one cream for morning and one for evening, so in effect a three-step routine – perfect. The claim is promising and motivates me to stick to this routine: brighter looking skin in 14 days. There are two star ingredients throughout the whole range: vitamin C and yuzu extract (a vitamin C-rich citrus fruit popular in Asia). I start my morning routine with this cleansing gel. The unnaturally sweet citrus scent seems unnecessary, as does the inclusion of fragrance, nevertheless it cleanses my skin efficiently. Maybe a little too efficiently as I have to apply moisturiser straight away, otherwise risking instantly dry skin. I’d say this gel cleanser would be ideal for oily skin. 100ml RRP £5.00
Boots Vitamin C Brightening Eye Gel
Boots’ Vitamin C range comes in bright orange packaging with white caps, so I’m immediately drawing comparisons to Ole Henriksen’s Truth Collection which took Boots by storm last year. I’ve not tried any Ole products yet, but with this eye gel coming in at one eighth of the cost of Ole Henriksen’s equivalent – yes really, £5.00 vs £37.00 – I’m hoping this product is a winner. The smell is very slightly too chemical for my liking but by no means noticeable. The texture is what I like best about it: light, gel-like, easily and quickly absorbed, it doesn’t overload the delicate eye area and reminds me of other ultra-light eye products I’ve reviewed. If you like this type of texture I can recommend The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG and Daytox Eye Wonder. I didn’t notice much difference in the brightness of my eye area or the appearance of my dark circles, but for the texture alone I would use this during the summer months when I look to light non-greasy products. 15ml RRP £5.00
Boots Vitamin C Brightening Moisturising Cream
So far I’ve been a little lukewarm towards this skincare range, but this is about to change thanks to these next two products. The texture of this moisturiser is beautiful, a cross between a cream and a gel. It feels hydrating but without leaving any residue, resulting in just plumped up and refreshed skin. For the drier parts of my face I do need to reapply half way through the day, but overall I would happily use this cream as part of my morning skincare routine, particularly in the summer – with the addition of an SPF though. And for the price (everything in this range is priced at a straightforward £5.00) this feels like incredibly good value. 50ml RRP £5.00
Boots Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask
My favourite product in the line up. Although the other three all offer great texture and great value for money, the sleeping mask also delivers the best and most instant results. After my evening cleanse I apply a generous layer of this leave-on mask to my face and neck. This is rapidly absorbed and stays on throughout the night without leaving any marks on my pillowcase. The following morning I just rinse off the residue with a damp muslin cloth and my skin truly looks more glowy and radiant. Exactly the result I was hoping for and I don’t even need to wait 14 days to see it staring at me in the mirror. This one’s a keeper. 50ml RRP £5.00

Yes I’m using WordPress, the Sela theme which felt like the most aesthetically pleasing and adapted to my needs. I don’t have a coding background at all so just worked my way through it little by little, looking at other blogs to get inspiration and asking LOTS of questions on the wordpress help chat!

Does it help with sun damaged skin ?

Hi Eddie,
Vitamin C can brighten skin and reduce fine lines caused by the sun, but as with most skincare ingredients it depends on how much of that ingredient is in the product: usually the higher concentration the more effective it will be (up to a certain point). So you could get in touch with Boots customer care and ask about the percentage of vitamin C included in this range, but if you have a specific concern I’d recommend speaking with a dermatologist, as over-the-counter products may not be strong enough. And of course SPF is a must to avoid further damage!

would you recommend the moisturizing cream for oily acne-prone skin? Most creams seem to break me out!

Hi Salma, I have acne-prone skin with an oily T-zone and didn’t find my skin broke out more than usual when using this cream. It’s not heavy on application and doesn’t leave a greasy residue, so I’d say if you’re into Vitamin C skincare it’s worth giving this one a go!
